I’m prescribed 40 mg. of valium a day. It’s a rather long lasting benzo. I think it would be out of your system in five days.

Diazepam, hydromorphone, what else are you taking?

BTW, the half life of desmethyldiazepam is between 50-100 hours. You are looking at at least 350-700 hours.

That is always going to depend on you specifically and the type of drug test that is being performed on you.

For instance if you have a really high metabolic rate then your body is going to break down drugs much more quickly than a person with a slower metabolic rate. If you are someone who drinks a lot of water and stays very hydrated then it can cause your urine to be a little more dilute, thus changing the specific gravity and maybe even pH to be slightly different than that of a person who drinks nothing but soda and coffee.

But most importantly it depends on the type of drug screen. Drugs and their metabolites are going to leave the blood stream much more quickly than they will leave the urine. Just as they will leave saliva/oral fluid much more quickly than they will the blood stream. If this is going to be a blood test then you should be okay in about a week, however if this is going to be a urine screen then it could take in excess of 30 days to get enough of the benzo out of your urine to keep from throwing a result above the detection limits used by the lab. It also depends on the type of methodology that is used to test the sample. If it is an on site test kit then it will be much less sensitive than a test done of EIA or GC-MS and so you would be able to come up clean on a test kit in less time than it would take for you to come up clean on EIA or GC-MS testing. Also some panels do not even include the benzos at all. For example if whoever is ordering this screen on you uses Quest Diagnostics and they get the basic 5 panel urine drug screen, then you don’t even have to worry about it, because benzos are not included on the 5 panel.

I would investigate what type of drug test you will be having. But ultimately, if you have a valid script, then it should not matter anyway. Just take a copy of the script with you or just give them the contact information for the physician that prescribed the diazepam and that should be sufficient.
